The Youngtown Inn is a classic 1810 farmhouse built proudly upon two centuries of New England heritage. This grand old house was the center of the Young family's poultry and dairy farm for more than seven generations.

Now known as The Youngtown Inn, the heart of the Young house has been immaculately preserved and lovingly kept by owners Manuel and MaryAnn Mercier. The Inn's worldwide reputation and recognition includes the Fodors Reviewfor eight consecutive years.

Located along Route 52 near Lake Megunticook, it is the perfect vacationing spot for exploring the mid-coast of Maine, taking ferry rides to nearby islands, swimming, boating, visiting the area's quaint shops, the Nature Conservancy and concerts at the Opera House as well as the Lobster Festival in nearby Rockport. In winter, the Camden Snow Bowl is a major attraction.

The Inn is as welcoming a building as you could hope for. A stately white-clapboard farmhouse with black shutters and gold trim, lit up for dinner with its windows all seems an outpost of worldliness and refinement along a serene country road. The inside of the Inn is equally welcoming. Warmed by a potbellied wood stove and brightened by arrangements of fresh flowers, the extended dining room is nicely understated. Stenciled white walls, hung with French prints, ascend beamed ceilings and naturally finished pumpkin pine floors that shine underfoot. A small oil-lamp illuminates each white-clothed table.

The Youngtown Inn's 70-seat French restaurant showcases the culinary skills of award winning chef, Manuel Mercier. Its upscale, yet modestly priced menu is as popular with local residents as the inn is with tourists. Exposed rustic beams, multi-paned windows and Windsor chairs tucked into intimate table settings provide an attractive site for dining. The menu draws upon Manuel's classic French training, offering authentic savory cuisine and decadent (must have) desserts. An extensive wine list of French and California wines complement the dining experience.

Spanning the second and third floor are the Inns guestrooms and parlor. All rooms are comfortably spacious and tastefully decorated with a country French flair. The second-floor Parlor Room invites visitors to browse through leather-bound books, and a soak up local lore or test out the board games squirreled into a niche beside the cozy fireplace. All this, while sipping complimentary cups of coffee with a home baked cookie. The Inn with its sunny verandas and impeccable hospitality is a warm and inviting establishment in this beautiful setting of rural Maine.

Gracing the walls of the Inn are proudly displayed framed articles depicting the history of the Merciers. Manuel and MaryAnn have an interesting story they often share with guests. It was destiny they met aboard a European cruise ship to the Baltic Sea. Manuel (a chef from Paris, France) was onboard the ship working as a staff chef. MaryAnn (vice president selling US bonds in NYC) was onboard for relaxation and to escape the pressures of city life. The fairytale unfolds as they met and then married 11 months later. The two then decided their talents would be suitably paired to run a restaurant together. Preferably somewhere outside of New York City, as they also desired to start a family. It was a long two-year search for the perfect place, searching up and down the east coast. They finally ended up in Maine and saw the Youngtown Inn. Right away, Manuel knew this was the place; the perfect old American building. They purchased the Inn in December 1991 and over the years, while raising a family, have built up an extensive clientele. Together, they continue to grow the business, always striving to offer guests a memorable experience for both lodging and fine dining.
